05.12.2018

On 5 December, the South Korean delegation to the 10th International Forum of Nuclear Industry Suppliers ATOMEX 2018 visited the Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant 2, which is currently under construction. The power plant is located in the town of Sosnovy Bor, 40 kilometers west of St. Petersburg on the coast of the Gulf of Finland.

The delegation comprised representatives of 35 Korean companies, including Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. (KHNP), KEPCO, Korea Nuclear Engineering Co., Korea Nuclear Partners, Shin Machinery, Doowon Cable Co., UNISON eTech Co., Woori Technology Inc., Focus Technology Co., Energyen Corporation, Yongsung Electric, HANA Nuclear Power Engineering, and others.

During the tour, the Korean experts visited the site where new power plant units of Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant 2 (LNPP-2) are being constructed, where they learned more about the features of the project and the progress made on the construction of power plant unit 2 (power plant unit 1 was commissioned this year). Innovative power plant units with the latest generation 3+ VVER-1200 reactors are currently under construction at LNPP-2. They are the most powerful reactors currently available, using cutting-edge achievements and designs that meet all the post-Fukushima requirements. Such power plant units are unique, with no analogues anywhere in the world.

Representatives of Korean companies also visited the Training Division (TD) of Leningrad NPP-2, where they saw the full-scale VVER-1200 simulator and were introduced to operating personnel training for the new power plant units with VVER-1200 reactors.
